About The Mission Attempt

The Mission Attempt Leadership: Vice President Thomasina Sargent, Executive Director Teona McGhaw and President Daneika Irving.

Two lifelong friends joined forces to create a nonprofit serving their North St. Louis County community in the fall of 2020. Teona McGhaw Boure’ and Daneika Irving were inspired by the life of Teona’s paternal great aunt, the late Fannie Lou Hamer, who was a civil rights, voting rights and community activist icon in the 1960s.

Teona explains: “My Aunt Fannie Lou was involved in civil rights and voting rights; but she also worked to provide practical support for families within her community as a path of empowerment. We try to incorporate some of those concepts in the programs and services that are provided by The Mission Attempt.”
